Why we treat the skin a little differently ...
For decades experts believed that the Stratum Corneum (the very top outer layer of skin) was simply a graveyard for dead skin cells with no true purpose.
Traditional beauty therapists taught you to peel, scrub or use harsh microdermabrasion treatments to remove this layer to reveal the fresh, glowing skin underneath.
What they didn’t tell you, is by removing this outer most protective layer you open yourself up to a series of skin conditions that will need more treatments and products to correct.
Your skin will glow for a few days while those fresh baby skin cells are exposed but after those few days of radiance, inflammation will set in followed by redness, your skin will then become reactive and in a state of shock ,needing repair.
Why would this happen? Lets break it down.
Your skin has an oil layer and a water layer and water always sits underneath oil.
By removing the top most layer of ones skin, your protective oil layer is removed, the oil acts as a lid keeping all that precious water in. So what happens when you take the lid of a bowl of water that moves around? It will spill out ……………. Hello Dehydrated skin!
This is your first issue - your skin looks dehydrated, because it is! Dehydration is the leading cause of many different skin conditions and then a cascade effect starts to follow .
As your skin cells move up the layers from fresh baby cells to more mature keratinocytes they are held together by a structure called a “desmosome”.
When your cells reach full maturity they are ready to desquamate and fall of all by themselves . To do this the “desmosomes” are eaten by an enzyme, this is your skins natural exfoliating process.
This clever skin system means you should never have congested pores or flakey skin but guess what that enzyme needs in order to engulf the desmosome…… you guessed it………water! And you don’t have any water left in your skin because you’ve been scrubbing!
This leaves the skin that is ready to fall off naturally stuck on the skins surface, clinging on, blocking pores causing congestion, uneven texture shall I go on…… and you will continue in the vicious cycle of wanting to scrub and peel it again each time making it more reactive.
You have stopped your skin from doing its natural exfoliation process and put it to work with a new job, “repair”
So whats the answer?? The answer is Corneotherapy
Science now shows us that the corneo layer is not dead and in fact it plays a leading role in the cellular communication within the skin. As technology and innovation evolved we have been trained to understand how the skin barrier works. We have a deeper understanding of what our skin needs to be heathy, and we understand that youthful vibrant skin is not possible without a functioning skin barrier.
This can be achieved by following a few basic rules of Corneotherapy. We can prevent various skin problems from happening and improve the overall health of our skin.
We want to preserve and protect that outter most layer and feed your skin quality ingredients so the natural process can take place.
Dermaviduals was designed by a doctor in Germany who was passionate about creating a skincare line to allow this to happen, Dermaviduals is designed to mimic the skins permeability barrier, this helps maintain your skins natural ph balance and maintain the acid mantel, slowing water loss from the skin and ensuring our skins cornocyte cells are strong and protected. We have the tools to make our own serums and tweak moisturisers and target whatever each individual skin needs.
